When the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted in 1990, Gazebo took a proactive stance. Gazebo founder Judith Fine worked with the City of Northampton to create the CAN Program, which offered generous grants to downtown businesses to become more accessible.

disabilityNorthampton wanted to be known as “the little city that can,” a welcoming place for all visitors to our wonderful downtown.

Upon enactment of the CAN Program, Gazebo’s front entry had an automatic door opener installed.  The entire store is spaciously laid out in such a way that makes it easy to navigated by wheelchairs, scooters and strollers. Our dressing rooms are spacious as well, and allow for easy access.  We welcome service animals as well.

Gazebo won one of the first Stavros Center Awards for businesses that helped to make a difference to people with disabilities.
